The 46 mile (75 km) Moray Coast Trail is a long-distance walking route in the northeast of Scotland, covering the length of the Moray Coast from Forres in the west to Cullen in the east. The route takes in extended stretches of scenic coastline with sandy beaches and dramatic rock formations, and passes through numerous historic fishing villages and towns along the way.
Although the distance is not to be sniffed at, the walk is largely straightforward, following footpaths, pavement, tracks, and beach. Breaking the walk up over four days is a comfortable pace for most, taking advantage of hotel or bed & breakfast accommodation in towns and villages along the trail. Camping is also possible, either at designated campsites or by wild camping in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. There are regular cafes, restaurants, and shops accessible in settlements along the trail, allowing you to buy food and supplies on each section of the route.
We walked the trail at the end of August, wild camping along the way and continuing on from Cullen to Sandend on the final day.
If you are planning to walk the MCT yourself, do check out our detailed guide over on our blog (linked at the top of this description) to find out everything you need to know.

Another great video as always. Lovely and relaxing to watch. Thanks for sharing. Jason
Love the drone pictures…breathtaking views. Thanks for sharing!
very useful and nice video.
warm greetings from top of the world
When I hike, I’m not up in the air; I’m on the ground. That’s what I want to see.
Love this relaxing video guys. I was reminiscing when I saw the signpost for Burghead. My company sent me on an outward bound course there for 4 weeks during mid Nov to mid Dec. Its objective was character training, I was on a management course, this was…. wait for it…58 years ago, I was 20 at the time. Although it was a sea school, orienteering, hiking, sailing and climbing were part of the schedule. So many memorable times. Hiking from Aviemore to the summit of Ben Macdhui in a whiteout was awesome. On returning from the summit, we camped by Loch Avon, still in blizzard conditions. After this trip, back in Dorset where I was working, my manager ran thru the report on my performance. The only negative, was that I " lost my humour on the hill". That trip at 20 years of age, ignited my passion for adventure, which has never left me to this day. Until the big C gave me a jolt this year, I was climbing 3000 ft of ascent every week. Sorry to ramble !
Del have you ever counted your extra steps? My word!
Stunning job Kim and Del. I enjoyed watching this long episode 👏👏
Great work guys. Using this film a lot to research my journey along the MCT. Did the Hopeman to Lossie stretch today, but in the opposite direction so I could see Cove Bay at low tide following your advice. Well rewarded with a beautiful sunset thrown in as well. Thanks again!
Great presentation!
As somebody who grew up in Hopeman this was amazing to see, thank you for making this, we are so lucky to live in this part of the world.

Gorgeous aerial shots my friend, this was masterfully filmed. Drone shots are so smooth and well executed! Professional shooting!
Quite impressed by the distances covered here. My feet were sore just watching!
Great footage and the commentary. A work of Genius! I guess it’s natural to be modest/self-effacing… hence the lack of facial close-ups and many more back shots than front shots… ? But what a brilliant place for a back-packing trip! Not too strenuous being flat, you can readily camp, and enjoy the coastal settlements, let alone the seascape. That’s another of your trips that really beckons! Thanks so much for your hard work.
Love your videos and for sure guides, which are very useful and full of inspiration to do hikes 🙂
Thanks!
I see your first nights camp was 100m from the bratwurst man!! It’s a smashing bit of coast this.
Great video. Who says they need to be short! Watched every minute and loved it. I aspire to this quality. 😊
It is a cold, winter day here in Michigan and I am watching this video for the umpteenth time. I love it. Beautiful filming, country and it really helps folks like me. My paternal grandparent’s came from Saltcoats/Stevenston to Michigan in the 1920’s. My Dad was born here, but siblings were not. We are still very close to our cousins in Ayr/Edinburgh and they want me to come over for my 60th birthday this year. I was last there in 1974 at age 10. I had an acute stroke at age 50 and that has made me physically handicapped, so walking the trail would be impossible – but I would love to see the East coast, Skye, and since I found out my kin was from Orkney/Shetland earlier this year that area. Such a long list. I adore your videos and with I could become a Patron – but I live on a strict pension now. So rewatching is the best I can do! Thanks for listening and sharing your beautiful trips. Scotland is and will always be a favorite to watch here!
So superlative and incomparable video images each time I watch yours!
All the video images of yours are obviously irreversible Number ONE!

Looks like a hidden gem
One for the algorithm. Cheers from Australia
I enjoy so much watching your videos 😊
Fantastic Moray coast. I spent over there 12 days camp in Findhorn. Really unique!
Beautiful part of the North Scottish coastline. Most of my ancestors are buried in Buckie cemetery and we come up every year to tend to the graves and get some cycling in. Usually go up in June and have always been lucky with the weather. Always wanted to do this trail but don’t have enough time. Can the trail be done on bikes, even if we need to get off every now and then?
Fantastic watch as usual guys. Cranberry, brie and bacon panini or fish n chips…. mmmm. Great walk and very informative. Thank you 👍
Filming and editing are spot on….was the fish hot 🙂
Thank you for a really informative video of a part of Scotland I’ve not see before. Hope to do parts of that coastline in a couple of years.
Love the way you do these, so relaxing to watch.
A work of art 🖼️
Super film and great trail. I hope to go a walk next year and will consider this carefully.
Take a virtual hike with us along this gorgeous (and thoroughly underrated!) part of Scotland’s coastline, and stick around for our chat about this 75 km walk in the second half. It was a pleasure to explore the full length of this trail having only visited parts of it previously, despite the route being practically on our doorstep (Del is from Elgin and we still visit this region a lot). And if we’ve managed to convince you to walk the Moray Coast Trail yourself, head on over to the blog where you’ll find everything you need to know to plan your walk in our detailed guide – https://www.goingthewholehogg.com/moray-coast-trail-guide/ Cheers! Kim & Del 🥾🥾
Great film! I didn’t even know there was a Moray coast trail, although I’ve been meaning to go see Bow Fiddle rock for a few years now! I did walk the part from Cullen to Sandend and absolutely loved it, gorgeous stretch of coastline indeed!
Nailed this video guys!
I saved this for watching over New Year. Very relaxing and a great inspiration for later in 2023! 👍
Its 4am in Cambridge UK and i discovered this video about 3/4 of an hour ago. Thouroughly enjoyed what I’ve seen so far! I’ll watch the rest later today! Thank you. Hope it was a good hike. 🙋🏴🇮🇪🙏👌🙂
Really peaceful and relaxing to watch; lovely beaches!
How come you always have such good weather in Scotland? Great cinematography which inspired me to buy a tripod. Keep up the great work.
Wow! I live here and do not recognise half of the places you visited. Just goes to show that I don’t know what’s on my own doorstep. Beautiful video ❤
This is wonderful! Great videography of areas I know well!! In the summer I cycled a similar route as part of the Moray way, which combined the MCT with the Speyside way and the Dava way to make a loop.
Such a pleasant surprise to see your latest film today. My Saturday morning coffee was enhanced by the sights and sounds of gentle waves, gulls, and your boots crunching gravel. Thank you again for giving us a great diversion from a troubled world.
